What have we learnt from ICESat on greenland ice sheet change and what to expect from current ICESat-2

چکیده

Ice-sheet mass balance and ice behaviour have been effectively monitored remotely by space-borne laser ranging technology, i.e. satellite altimetry, and/or gravimetry. ICESat mission launched in 2003 has pioneered altimetry providing a large amount of elevation data related to sheet change with high spatial temporal resolution. ICESat-2, the successor mission, was 2018, continuing legacy its predecessor. This paper presents an overview review Greenland estimated from compared against estimates derived gravimetry, changes Earth’s gravity field obtained GRACE data. In addition that, it provides insight into characteristics possibilities monitoring renewed which for examination height on Jakobshavn glacier. comparison (2004–2008) shows that average different areas varies up ±0.60 m yr−1. Island’s coastal southern regions are most affected loss, while inland record near-balance state. same period, anomaly measurements showed negative annual trends few cm -0.36 yr-1 w.e. (water equivalent), records show slightly positive trends. According observations, following years (2009–2017), coast continued.

ICESat measurement of Greenland ice sheet surface slope and roughness

The Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) in its 8 day repeat orbit mode provided data not only on the along-track surface slope, but also on the cross-track surface slope from adjacent repeat ground tracks. During the first 36 days of operation, four to five such repeat orbits occurred within 1 km in the cross-track direction. This provided an opportunity to use ICESat data to measu...

What have we learnt from our mistakes?

The authors discuss the general steps involved in good decision making and use those steps to organize results from behavioral decision research, illustrating some of the challenges in making important choices. Framing effects, self serving biases, and context effects are a few of the errors and biases presented. The authors also discuss a variety of techniques for reducing biases and errors. T...

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT FROM THE DECADE OF 1990’s?

Countries who learn from their own experiences have a better chance of avoiding the same mistakes and move forward. I will, therefore this evening, take a comparative long-term perspective and juxtapose Pakistan in relation to other developing countries and its own experience of the 1990’s. My hands-on involvement in restructuring of the economy during the last four years, in-depth analysis of ...
